…until Ramadan! Yaayy!
It’s been a roller coaster ride this year for my iman so I’m really looking forward to Ramadan. I am starting to make dua that Allah extend my life so that I can fast this Ramadan just like the sahaba did and make it the best of all the past years for me.
My (non-Muslim) dad and I were talking about the 16-hour fasts this year. You can imagine the look on his face when we calculated the hours! He had to ask me more than once if I could drink water during that time! To some non-Muslims, Ramadan seems suicidal. To Muslims, it’s heightened spirituality. To doctors, it’s prescribed medicine. To the devils, it’s prison.
I remember my own reaction to Ramadan before I converted to Islam. While I agreed with fasting, I thought their method was wrong and pointless. I mean, why do Muslims have to be so strict with everything? And what’s all this business about not being able to go to parties and clubs anymore? After all, what did having fun have to do with food?
Now, as a Muslim, I am so eager to experience spiritual serenity. It’s been a ritual of mine to make my ULTIMATE dua list every Ramadan that I will ask Allah for every night insha Allah so I will be doing that soon.
I followed this advice from an audio I listened to from Shaykh Muhammad Alshareef and alhamdulillah, it’s been spectacular. I highly recommend it to you, so get out a pen and paper. Here’s the formula:
- Go somewhere beautiful with no distractions.
- Ask yourself, “If Allah told me I could have anything in the dunya and akhira, what would I ask for?”
- Write out everything — be really EXCITED!!
- Pick out the top 6 duas and prioritize the list. Don’t forget to include things in the akhira.
- Keep this list with you at all times in Ramadan and don’t forget to ask Allah consistently, especially at the best times (i.e. Laylatu AlQadr, Qiyam al-Layl, right before breaking fast etc.)
Can you feel the excitement?!

Thank you for reminding me the coming ramadan.
Ramadan has always been the best month of the year. you can’t get that feeling any other time. have a beautiful and meaningful Ramadan this year and hope that it will bring new hope and stronger faith and unity in our muslim community all over. And pray that it will lessen the suffering of our family in palestin, Iraq, Afghanistan and all over, rejoice for the coming of best of the month.
JazakAllah……………
Wow, this will be my fist time fasting on Ramadan. Unfortunatelly the my first year I was not ready yet and the second year I had a terrible accident on the first day of Ramadan (clear sign that I still wasn’t ready). May Allah guide me this year and make me successfully follow the fasting. I wish the same for all of my brothers and sisters too!
Thanks Hendon. I pray the same for you.
Amir, ameen. Ramadan is truly amazing! Your ULTIMATE dua list has already started then by first asking Allah to make you be able to participate in Ramadan. Nice.
Ramadan especially is a time to ask for everything imaginable and unimaginable.
